Nowadays, the working of governments is considered slow and unorganized in most countries. I believe that citizens need to wait for longer periods whenever there is a personalized approach to government services. Therefore, in the United States Of America, the Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is proposed to ensure that government services run smoothly, saving time, resources, and taxes.
Today, we’ll provide an overview of DOGE, and how it might make a difference to help taxpayers optimize their spending.
Overview: Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE)
The DOGE is a government body concerned with making the work of public services efficient. Its mission is to reduce bureaucracy and enhance processes so that it is easier for citizens to interact with government institutions. The DOGE can be described as a team of experts who will restructure the federal government of the United States and increase governmental efficiency, trying to make your government-run services faster, simpler, and more effective.
It was announced by the newly elected president, Donald Trump in his second term as the US president. Thi leaders will be Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. In addition, it seems like this department will work as an advisory body by two of Trump’s reliable allies directing information to the White House.
A Non-Government Department
With the support of Trump, the word ‘department’ is not an official government department that needs to be organized by act of Congress, employing thousands of staff members.
The Department Of Government Efficiency is an advisory group and not a federal department. Musk and Ramaswamy will work for the public good as external private experts. The administration will reduce all the unusual costs and regulations to make the administration leaner and more effective.
Work Environment Of DOGE
Both of DOGE’s leaders have promised to reorganize or even shut down major federal agencies. Its concept is connected to Trump’s campaign promises to lower federal spending, shrink the government, and reduce the federal budget deficit.
Ramaswami plans to close the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service, and the US Department of Education. Musk aims to eliminate bureaucracy and has pledged to cut about $2 trillion, roughly one-third of the federal government’s annual budget.
They’ve stated that our focus is on cutting the costs due to a serious existing threat to our republic represented by the federal bureaucracy. Moreover, they wish to shut down some agencies entirely to control mass layoffs, and slash federal regulations.
Recruiting Employees
- Musk has asked employees on X, considered as ‘Twitter’ before, a social media platform he owns, to apply for jobs.
- People interested have been told to send their resumes directly to the new DOGE account on X.
- Applicants can expect to work over 80 hours a week on unattractive cost-cutting tasks, with no salary, according to a post from DOGE.
- Also, he mentioned that the job would involve tough work, creating enemies, and no pay.
- Only the “top 1% of applicants” will be considered by Musk and Ramaswamy, though the ranking criteria were not explained.
Running On A Deadline
Even before running this operation, they have planned the expiration date i.e. 4th July 2026. They are building a smaller government with more efficiency and less bureaucracy as a gift to the United States Of America on its 250th Anniversary of declared Independence.
DOGE seems to be a mirror image of the Grace Commission, established by President Ronald Reagan in 1982 to control spending and reform federal bureaucracy.
In addition, while its 2-year tenure, almost 2500 recommendations were submitted by the Grace Commission to the White House and Congress. Still, many of them were never implemented.
Wrap Up
The Department of Government Efficiency is helping to reshape how citizens interact with their governments. In my opinion, they are creating a department that is indirectly supporting the roles of government services for cutting their costs and enabling taxpayers to get more benefits.
