This event happened on 15th December 2024 when both teams were desperately competing for a positive result. The flow of the match was extremely energetic and exciting which led to a dramatic ending.

Manchester United came back from behind to win the Derby leaving Manchester City Stunned at the Etihad Stadium, in England. Both teams played tremendously well while giving the best for their respective clubs.

Early Action

In the 14th minute, Mason Mount limped off the field after getting injured again. At the 36-minute, Man City scores to make it 1-0 against Man United! Josko Gvardiol, the defender, scores with a strong header from a cross by De Bruyne. The ball came from the left side after Man United couldn’t handle a short corner properly. 

Gvardiol’s header gave City the lead. It was the only memorable moment in a dull first half, where both teams played nervously and were seen struggling.

Moreover, Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund joked that Kyle Walker should win an Oscar after accusing Walker of play-acting during the derby. The two clashed in the first half when Walker got into an argument with Hojlund after a foul.

Second Half Begins

The second half started with Manchester United looking to score. In the 62nd minute of the match, Man United had a chance to deliver when Amad headed the ball to Bruno Fernandes’ with a cross towards the far post. However, Ederson made a smart save to stop it keeping the scores to 1-0.

Then, Manchester United had another big opportunity in the 73rd minute. Fernandes ran onto a pass after some good team play but somehow managed to shoot over Ederson and wide of the far post, missing the chance to score again.

Two consecutive missed chances showed that Manchester United was putting more pressure on their rivals. So, they kept on trying to make an impact on the field and get back into the game.

The Equalizer

Manchester United scored to make it 1-1 in the 88th minute. Bruno Fernandes took a calm penalty and sent Manchester City’s goalkeeper, Ederson, the wrong way. The penalty was given after Nunes from Manchester City fouled Amad Diallo. 

Nunes had made a poor pass earlier that allowed Diallo to get a chance on goal, and in trying to fix his mistake, he fouled Diallo inside the box area.

Just a minute after, Amad breaks through again with a comeback by lifting the ball over Ederson, and from a tight angle on the left side of the box, he strikes it into the net to give Manchester United the lead of 1-2. It was a shocking moment for everybody at the Etihad Stadium when Amad Diallo’s goal stole the night from Man City.

Player of the Match

Amad Diallo (Manchester United), 22 years old became the second player in Machester United’s history to ever score a winner goal in the 90th minute for the team against the reigning premier league champions.
